Iron Range Resources is a unique state agency located in Eveleth, Minnesota whose mission is to advance regional growth by stabilizing and enhancing the economy of northeastern Minnesota.
The agency’s Taconite Assistance Area covers 13,000 square miles, including all or parts of Cook, Lake, St. Louis, Itasca, Aitkin and Crow Wing counties. The agency is funded by taconite production taxes paid by mining companies in lieu of property taxes. Iron Range Resources provides a variety of financial incentive packages to businesses wishing to expand or relocate in its service area. Financial assistance is also available to foster community readiness for business development.
The agency is a regional leader in the support of renewable energy initiatives, provides grants to communities for infrastructure development and funds tourism and cultural promotional activities.
